WHY 3D
3D stereo visualization represents an opportunity to take out the full potential of 3D data. There has been a rapid development in 3D software in recent years. 3D software applications have 3D effects, such as shadows and the ability to turn models around. 3D stereo visualization allows the user to better judge the exact depth and proportions, to look around the object by turning her head, to better separate the elements in complex structures etc.
Usage of stereo 3D is in an early phase and the exact benefits in different applications are not fully known. However early usage have brought some ideas of what they might be:
- Increased accuracy in diagnostics based on CT scans
- Improved interpretation of ultrasound images
- Improved cross discipline decision making due to more intuitive images
