There is a clear trend in the oil & gas industry towards increased use of advanced visualisation. Goggle based stereo solutions are already actively in use and work is being done to develop new visualization solutions. The Norwegian national technology strategy for the petroleum sector (OG21) covers the area:
Visualization is seen by many as a key integration tool to allow cross-discipline, and cross company collaboration, as it enables the aggregation of numerous data sets in one environment. New 2D and 3D visualization solutions have the potential to meet these requirements.
The Setred technology has the potential to open up new areas of usage for stereo 3D. Firstly, natural ergonomics allows prolonged use without the user suffering from nausea. Secondly, since the display requires no headgear it can be used in operation rooms along with conventional displays. Thirdly, it is a desktop display that can be connected to any computer making it suitable for most workstations.
