A stereo solution produces 3D by using goggles filtering different information to each eye. An autostereo solution produces the 3D in the display itself so that the viewer experiences the depth information without the use of goggles.
Goggle based solutions are the dominating technology today.
Autostereo solutions, such as Setred’s technology, opens up for usage of 3D in new areas:
- It also allows prolonged usage as there are no known side effects such as fatigue and nausea.
- It can be integrated into systems alongside other monitors, as the user can look from one to the other without putting glasses on and off.
- It allows presentation of 3D images in situations where people enter the scene and it is not feasible to ask them to put on goggles or head gear (reception areas, trade shows, etc).
- The user can study the object from different perspectives (look around the object) simply by moving her head sideways.
